Heutzutage sind jedoch Sommerwärme, Sonnenscheindauer und eine lange Vegetationsperiode Faktoren, die einen so positiven Einfluss auf den Pflanzenwachstum haben, dass der Ungunst-Faktor Trockenheit mit sehr großem Aufwand und vielseitig auftretenden Problemen zum Trotz, ausgeglichen wird (HAHN 2002:334f). Somit ist der Anblick von riesigen Obstplantagen im Kontrast zu tausenden von Kilometern langen Betonkanälen und riesigen Staudämmen nicht selten. Jedoch ist die Landwirtschaft schon lange nicht mehr der einzige Nutzer des Mangelgutes Wasser.
